Subnasal lip lift (bullhorn): If aging has left you with an elongated lip that hides your teeth when smiling, this procedure reduces the distance between nose and lip for a subtle, beautiful lift. This creates a fuller, more youthful look, enhancing natural facial harmony. The technique is named after the bullhorn-shaped incision applied directly beneath the nose.
In a bullhorn lip augmentation, I will administer local anesthesia and to the lip area. Once numb, incisions are made directly under the nostrils and up to one-third of the skin is excised between the nose and upper lip. The incision is closed with tiny sutures. Once healed, the incision is usually hidden by the natural creases in the skin and is sometimes virtually invisible. Another type of lip lift is done by lifting the lip at the vermillion lip border.
